Id like to think that's its simply because I am a Baby Whisperer. But honestly there are many things I have learned over the years to help babies drift off to sleep and stay asleep during their newborn photo session.
First and I think most important(other than safety) is patience. Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first two weeks after birth. They are brand new to the world and adjusting to the world. If a newborn is not settling, I check to make sure their basic needs are met. Is the baby hungry, does the diaper need to be changed, or does the baby need to burp? Due to this my sessions are what I call BABY-LED.
BABY LED- also means as a professional and experienced newborn photographer, I take cues from my newborns on how I can pose them comfortably and safely. Baby led posing basically means we pose based on what baby allows us to do and do safely. Some poses aren’t good for certain babies, For example some have really bad gas or reflux or colic and some poses will bother them, some babies have hip issues, etc. And with my experience I can pick up on these cues. I will never want to force a baby into a pose because that definitely isn’t safe. I personally will never guarantee poses because of this. Although I have my sets premade the flow and order is based on baby's needs.
Finally Tricks of the trade. Keeping my studio warm around 75 degrees and my little space heater is my best friend. Then I have all my gadgets , White noise machine, baby shusher ,vibration pad, weighted blanket etc.
Please reach out if you have any questions regarding my baby whispering skills and getting your newborn on the schedule.
